Dodgers News: Legendary Hall of Famer Makes Another Hall of Fame
A Los Angeles Dodgers legend was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame on Friday.
National Baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster Jaime Jarrín, Spanish voice of the Dodgers for 64 seasons, was inducted into the Museum of Broadcast Communications’ Radio Hall of Fame on Thursday in Nashville, Tenn.
Lon Helton, a newly inducted member, acted as the Master of Ceremonies, while Co-Chairmen Kraig Kitchin and Dennis Green offered the opening remarks to welcome the guests.
Back at Dodger Stadium on Friday, the member of the Dodgers’ Ring of Honor described it as one of the most meaningful honors of his career.
“After Cooperstown, that’s the highest honor there is,” he said. “After more than 60 years on the radio, I feel super, super pleased and humbled. The blessings keep coming. Really, it’s unbelievable.”
The group of 2024 inductees also included:
· Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase (inducted as a duo)
· Lee Harris
· Phil Hendrie
· Kraig Kitchin
· Barry Mayo
· Mary McCoy
· Matt Siegel
Jarrín posted a heartfelt thank you on his personal Facebook page.
“Humbled and with immense gratitude after being elevated to the Radio Hall of Fame along with six titans of the radio industry last night at the Omni Nashville,” wrote Jarrín. “My thanks to the electing committee for bestowing upon me this honor that I share with the audience, family, friends and compatriots Ecuadorians. The Lord keeps blessing me after my semi-retirement from the microphone after the 2022 baseball season.”
Jarrín began broadcasting Dodgers games in 1959, the team’s second season in Los Angeles. Throughout his distinguished career, he called three perfect games, nearly two dozen no-hitters, 26 All-Star Games, and 29 World Series.
His accolades include the Ford C. Frick Award from the Hall of Fame in 1998 and his induction into the Dodgers’ Ring of Honor in 2018. Although Jarrín retired from broadcasting in 2022, he continues to serve as an ambassador for the team.
Vin Scully, another legendary figure, was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1995.
Founded by the Emerson Radio Corporation in 1988, the Radio Hall of Fame has been operated by the Museum of Broadcast Communications since 1991.
