Dodgers News: Max Muncy Held Out of the Lineup One Day After Early Exit

The Dodgers are going to give Max Muncy a day off on Saturday night in Atlanta. Just one day after he was removed from the game with right ankle soreness, Muncy was held out of the Los Angeles lineup.

The good news is that the initial diagnosis was day-to-day by Dave Roberts. The Dodgers’ skipper also seemed encouraged was that there was not one play in particular that aggravated it, and that it did not happen with him stepping on the bag.

With how well Muncy has played in 2021, it’s the right call for the Dodgers to play it safe with him. Muncy will be replaced in the lineup at first base by Matt Beaty, who came in to replace him on defense for an inning on Friday. Albert Pujols later entered the game to hit.

Muncy is slashing .265/.424/.530 on the year with a league-leading 45 walks drawn. He’s also up near the top in on-base percentage in all of MLB as well as OPS. To say that he has been productive in the Dodgers lineup would be an understatement.

But the Dodgers have also struggled badly with keeping guys healthy in 2021. That likely led to the decision to give him a day off of his feet, especially during a regular-season game in early June. Los Angeles trails the Giants by 2 games in the NL West heading into Saturday.

Dave Roberts mentioned in his pregame press conference on Saturday that Muncy could also be held out of the game on Sunday as well. The Dodgers have a day off on Monday before going to Pittsburgh.

  1. Lets hope this is yet not another mis diagnosis by Roberts and the training staff. I can see being out of lineup for 1 or 2 games but then when it gets to a weeks worth of games and then deciding to put him on IL is just plain ridiculous!
