Dodgers News: Michael Grove Talks About Clayton Kershaw’s Intimidating Game Day Routine
Dodgers rookie Michael Grove has found himself making five starts this season, on a pitching staff that includes multiple All-Stars, several guys who have either won the Cy Young Award or received votes, and, oh yeah, possibly the best pitcher of our generation in Clayton Kershaw.
Grove has held his own in those five starts, posting a 3.09 ERA in 23.1 innings. But more than the boost he’s given to the rotation, Grove has been able to watch how the veterans work and prepare themselves to pitch.
In a conversation with David Vassegh on Dodger Talk the other day, Grove was asked about the stars’ routines and how he applies them to his own work.
“Everyone’s a little bit different and Clayton’s got a kind of famous routine. You know, he doesn’t talk to anybody and all that kind of stuff. Sometimes it’s like five minutes before I realize he’s pitching today and I better keep to myself. But it’s cool to see what other guys do compared to what I do. I think I have a pretty good routine myself, so I haven’t changed a whole lot, but it’s interesting to see how each guy goes about getting ready for their start.”
Grove isn’t the most highly touted Dodgers pitching prospect, but the time he’s spent with the veterans this season is sure to pay dividends for him over his career. And who better to learn from that Kershaw?
