Dodgers News: Mookie Betts and Jason Heyward Set to Make First Appearances of the Spring

The Dodgers play their third game of the Cactus League season today, driving 15 minutes north of Camelback Ranch to visit the Padres in Peoria.

The matchup on its own is already exciting for fans looking to see the Dodgers and Padres match up for the first time in 2023. But it’ll be even better for those in attendance (or watching on TV) as Dave Roberts has his big gun in the lineup.

All-star right fielder Mookie Betts gets into his first game action of the spring today. Even with early spring conversation about moving him down in the order, he’s in his usual leadoff spot.

Joining Mookie in the lineup is Jason Heyward, also making his first start of the spring. Will Smith, J.D. Martinez, and Gavin Lux make their second starts of the Cactus League season along with second baseman Miguel Vargas, who is still not allowed to swing a bat during the game.

On the bump for LA is rookie right-hander Ryan Pepiot who, yes, is also making his first start of the spring.

The Dodgers are 1-1 so far, beating the Cubs on Sunday in Glendale 9-4. The Friars are 1-1 as well and are coming off of a monster 18 run performance on Sunday.

First pitch is set for 12:10 PM PT and will be simulcast on SportsNet LA and on AM570 LA Sports Radio, the radio home of the Dodgers.
