Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Explains Why He’s Branching Into Numerous Non-Baseball Things

Dodgers star utilityman Mookie Betts has been one of the best in the game for a long time, and the franchise is lucky to have him leading the way. He has started to make his mark on the game, not only on the field but off it, as well.

He started his popular podcast this season, and he also was seen at the World Series as a reporter covering the games. His interests go far beyond just the game of baseball, and it’s made him one of the more fun players in the league today.

Betts explained why he has recently started to branch out into more non-baseball activities, despite the criticism that some throw at him.

“My wife is like, ‘You’re going to have a midlife crisis when you’re done playing, and you’re not going to know how to handle it,’ ” Betts said. “So when you hear something like that, it took me a little bit to register it.”

Most athletes have other interests outside of their respective sports, and it can be very healthy for them to get away. It’s the kind of recharge that they may need to help improve their play, and at the end of the day, they are people just like everyone else.

They don’t have one singular interest, although many fans would like them to be focused 100 percent of the time. But Betts has shown that he can play baseball at a very high level, while also looking around at all the other exciting things to do in life.

While the postseason didn’t go his way, Betts proved that he is still one of the elite players in the game today this season. He was the National League MVP runner-up, and he put together his best season since joining LA.

He hit .307 with 39 home runs and 107 runs batted in. Betts was one of the driving forces behind the Dodgers winning 100 games this season, and we can’t take that away from him.

“Obviously, I’m taking care of my job, right? But you also have to take time to prepare for the next chapter in life. I don’t want to have that midlife crisis.”

Betts understands that he has work to do while he is still a baseball player, and that continues to motivate him. But he is also aware that there is an entire lifestyle waiting for him in his post-playing days, as well, and he wants to be prepared for the next chapter of his life down the road.
