The Los Angeles Dodgers have been plagued by injuries through the first quarter of the 2025 season, so much so that first baseman Freddie Freeman has played with an ailment from the onset of the year.

Freeman, whose ankle was surgically repaired in the offseason, has not played at 100 percent health and likely won’t until after the All-Star break. The World Series MVP spends over an hour pregame preparing his ankle for nine innings of play.

This may now be the case for Mookie Betts who is dealing with a fracture to the fourth toe on his left foot. Manager Dave Roberts explained that the nature of the injury prevented the Dodgers from placing Betts on the injured list because the ailment will likely linger for some time.

“Probably don’t think that four days [off] versus 14 days or 15 days is going to make much of a difference,” Roberts said over the weekend.

The Dodgers’ plan for Betts is to focus on getting the swelling to subside and pain under control, but the injury may not be fully healed once the shortstop returns to the lineup. Roberts said it could linger for “quite some time.”

The team is in a precarious situation given the upcoming June schedule, which features the New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers’ opponents demand the team is at its best, but how can that happen with so many injuries?

Betts landing on the IL would be another devastating blow to an injury-riddled Dodgers, but it appears the superstar will likely play through the injury, whenever he’s able to return.
