Dodgers News: Mookie Betts-Jarlin Garcia Verbal Fight Sets Internet Ablaze

Any time the Dodgers and Giants meet for a series, there’s always the potential for some entertaining moments that remind fans of the bitter rivalry between the two teams. On Thursday, another chapter in the endless book that is the Dodgers-Giants rivalry was written and Mookie Betts was one of the main characters.

For those that missed it, don’t worry our own Doug McKain broke it all down.

In the the sixth inning at Oracle Park, Giants reliever Jarlín García struck out two batters in a clean inning. The moment came after he punched out James Outman and then made eye contact with Mookie to mock the team’s helmet tap “Wolf of Wall Street” celebration the Dodgers use after key plays.

Betts gestured García to “bring it”, but the umpires got involved and escorted the respective players back to their dugouts to diffuse any further altercation.

That’s when Giants manager Gabe Kapler absolutely lost it. The San Francisco skipper hopped out of the dugout and so he could continue screaming at home plate umpire Phil Cuzzi for what Kapler deemed as unfair treatment of his García after how Betts responded.

Kapler’s antic resulted in the first ejection of his Giants career. It didn’t help matters that the normally cool, calm, and collected Kapler, and his Giants team, were well on their way to getting swept by the Dodgers for the third time this season.

The Betts-García altercation, coupled with Kapler’s mental meltdown, has drawn plenty of eyeballs from baseball fans across the country.

  1. Sorry, but it’s hard to fake any sympathy for the Giants. I still remember Juan Marachal trying to take his bat to the mound. Mookie’s “bring it” was a great comeback. I suspect when the next Dodger hit’s a dinger off Garcia we may get to see a very nice bat flip.
