Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Still Expects Big Things from Cody Bellinger

To get the confidence boost from a guy like Mookie Betts can go a long way for a team with championship aspirations. It’s no doubt Cody Bellinger has been faced with huge struggles all season long, especially in the last couple of months, but Betts and the Dodgers know what Bellinger is capable of and won’t give up on potential production in the postseason.

Bellinger reached a slump of eight games in a row without recording a hit before finally breaking out of the slump tallying two hits in back-to-back games, including a double against the Diamondbacks. Despite hopes of Bellinger coming out of his slump, Bellinger went hitless again Tuesday night in four at-bats and 0-3 on Wednesday.

The signs are there of what Bellinger is capable of and Betts isn’t going to shy away when speaking of his confidence towards his former NL MVP teammate.

“Belly will be Belly, he’ll be fine. He always finds ways. He competes. He plays a Gold Glove center field, which is huge. For some odd reason, he comes through in those clutch situations. We always know he’ll be there, be a fierce competitor and be ready when the lights turn on.”

The pressure remains high for Bellinger as he continues to look for his stride with the regular season winding down. The Dodgers easily clinched a spot in the playoffs even without full support from Bellinger.

His play in the outfield goes a long way, but sooner rather than later the Dodgers are going to need the run support from Bellinger.

  1. Belly was of course injured when our super utility guy slammed his upraised hand following a homerun—and so the future prospect of his success will I think be linked to full recovery from that old injury. Can the writer please say more about that?
