Dodgers News: National Reporter Provides Insight on Andrew Friedman’s Mentality at Trade Deadline

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been reported to be among the teams poised to make big moves at the trade deadline. The team primarily has needs in the outfield and bullpen, and are expected to bring in at least a couple players to further a potential postseason run in October.

In a recent interview with Dodgers Nation, ESPN’s Buster Olney dove into president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman’s mentality heading into the upcoming trade deadline.

“Andrew will monitor the marketplace,” Olney told Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain. “And if there’s some outfield opportunity that pops up, where adding a guy, I could see them striking. But, a lot of it depends on how the veterans are swinging in the days leading up to the deadline.”

While the Dodgers have been known to make some big moves at the deadline, Olney believes Friedman won’t bend to give up a huge return in exchange.

“He does not believe in paying sticker price,” Olney told McKain. “And, if you get into these situations where you have to pay sticker price plus 10 percent and you have a seven-game lead in your division and you have a 98 percent chance of making the playoffs in mid-July, I just don’t think there’s a reason where he’s going to step out and go nuts and say, ‘Yeah, we’re gonna tear up the farm system.’ ”

Among the players the Dodgers have reportedly considered or could be interested include pitchers Garrett Crochet, Yusei Kikuchi and Jack Flaherty, and outfielders Luis Robert Jr. and Randy Arozarena. The trade deadline is July 30.
