Dodgers News: Noah Syndergaard Expected to Make Next Start on Saturday, Finger Doing Okay

Dodgers RHP Noah Syndergaard left his May 9 start against the Milwaukee Brewers after just one inning with a gnarly, bloody blister. It seemed like a sure thing Syndergaard would miss at the very least his next start, but on Monday, Syndergaard was right back out there against the Minnesota Twins.

Syndergaard ended up going four innings and throwing just 59 pitches, leaving the bullpen to get 15 outs, and then a lot more after the game went 12 innings.

Syndergaard wasn’t removed because of the blister flaring up, though. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts just felt like he didn’t want to push it and potentially make it worse.

On Tuesday, Roberts was again asked about Syndergaard, and yet again had a positive update on him. Roberts said Syndergaard finished Monday’s start with no further issues, and is expected to make his next start, which is Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals. He’ll just need to have the cut covered with some topical skin glue.

Now if the Dodgers are planning on using Syndergaard as a normal starter with a normal workload, this would be good news. However, if they plan on doing what they did on Monday, and not allowing him to go more than four innings or so, this could only create more problems.

The Dodgers had to use seven relievers on Monday, and that ended up making Tuesday’s game even more difficult. The Dodgers don’t have a day off until Thursday, May 25, so unless they plan on making multiple roster moves to help the bullpen out, they really need their starters to go a little longer.

Hopefully Syndergaard starting means the Dodgers are planning on making him a full go. Because if they don’t plan on doing that, they have rookie RHP Gavin Stone ready to make a start at any time.
