Dodgers News: Rookie Michael Grove Sees The Writing on the Wall as Deadline Approaches

As we get closer to the trade deadline, the Dodgers will likely be making moves to upgrade their starting pitching staff. It’s an absolute need for this team as they have struggled to put together any form of consistency this season on the mound. They have been forced to tinker with their rotation and bullpen almost daily due to injuries and poor play.

This pitching staff has relied upon multiple rookies this season and to their credit, the Dodgers likely wouldn’t be where they are today without them. However, with the team’s likely moves coming down the line soon, the status of the rookies with the big-league club remains up in the air.

Pitchers Bobby Miller, Emmet Sheehan and Michael Grove have all contributed to the success of the Dodgers this season and sometimes these rumors can be a lot to handle. But even with this, the best way to keep their jobs is go out there each time they are called upon and prove their worth (via Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register).

“I know it’s an area that we probably have to address. We have three rookies in the rotation right now. That’s not a secret,” Grove said.

Per The OC Register

Grove has had an up and down season so far. He would likely be the first to be taken off the big league roster if the team does make any moves for pitching or moved strictly to a bullpen role.

On the season, Grove holds an ERA of 6.40. He has a record of 2-2 over 12 games played, nine of which he started in. Grove has also added in 47 strikeouts over 52 innings of work.

He understands that this is a business and that he has no control over what happens during these next few weeks. But Grove knows that no matter what happens, his confidence won’t waver.

“I feel like the growing pains are going to be there. But I’m also super confident in Emmet, I’m super confident in Bobby and myself that we can get the job done if we have to. I’ll leave it up to the front office.”

Per The OC Register

As the next couple weeks unfold leading up to the trade deadline, the rookies will continue to be a part of the rotation. They very well could be after the deadline as well, depending on what happens.

Either way, the organization has seen what each of these guys can do and will use that to decide how they want to proceed with them going forward.
