Dodgers News: Royals Honor Vin Scully Before First Pitch at Kauffman Stadium

Dodgers fans and baseball fans alike mourned the passing of Vin Scully last week. Even though Vin lived a full life that the vast majority of us could only dream of, his passing was an event that saddened the millions of people’s lives that he changed forever. In the days following the loss of Vin, baseball stadiums across the country honored the Dodges legend.

On Friday, the Kansas City Royals paid tribute to the LA icon prior to first pitch against the Dodgers at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals displayed a photo of Vin on the team’s monolithic video board and manager Dave Roberts took the time to once again pay his respects to a great broadcaster and an even greater man.

Last week, Roberts explained what Vin meant to him personally after the announcement was made (quotes via OCR’s Bill Plunkett).

“You know – he was the Dodgers. Growing up in Southern California, it didn’t matter where you were if you heard that voice on the radio or on the TV, you knew the Dodgers were on. I think there are a lot of heavy hearts in here tonight hearing that news – but also very appreciative and grateful that I had the opportunity to come over here and play in this organization and get to know him. And get to consider him a friend.”

Tip of the cap to the Royals for executing top-class tribute for the late, great Vin Scully.
