Dodgers News: Scott Boras Thinks Cody Bellinger Can Regain His Form

The Dodgers are still deciding whether or not they want to bring Cody Bellinger back in 2023. They have the option to tender him a contract this offseason, or they can just let him go to become a free agent. On Wednesday, Bellinger’s agent, the famous Scott Boras, spoke about his clients entering important offseasons, including the Dodgers’ centerfielder.

He says Bellinger can still get back to where he was during his MVP season in 2019.

“I think it’s about health and strength,” Boras said. “We know he’s a five-tool player, an MVP-type. Unfortunately he got hurt in that World Series [in 2020]. We had COVID in between that, we had interrupted elements. So to get him a really, really solid offseason to get his strength back … it’s really about getting his strength back so he can compete at his skill level.”

The Dodgers would love to get 2019 Bellinger back, but he did just have a full 2022 season to show that he was still himself — and he failed to do that. Bellinger hit just .210 in 2022, with 19 home runs and 68 RBIs.

Boras declined to comment on whether or not the Dodgers have mentioned anything about tendering him a contract, but did say that “talent is hard to find,” and he knows his client is very talented.

  1. Although I have serious credibility issues with Scott Boras, I believe Cody will return to form and I don’t want that to happen with another team. I think the analyst who wrote he got off from his leg injury is probably on to something, especially when combined with the shoulder issues.
We’re going to offer Cody arbitration because we want to take as much time as possible to fix him. No multiyear deal/negotiations are possible or wise at this time due to Boras and performance in recent years.

  2. It would not be an too expensive gamble to give him one more year ($19 mil) but the Dodgers do need to find a high contact, high batting avg type hitter so they can reduce AB’s for Chris Taylor and non-tender Joey Gallo. We saw how bad the three of them in the line-up together were.

  3. Right now Scott Boras is putting lipstick on a pig and saying it is the reincarnation of Marylin Monroe.

  4. He’s done. If he hasn’t solved his problems in two years it’s not likely that he’ll magically discover an answer in 2023. It’s probably better just to let him quietly mosey on into the sunset rather than bring him back for another year of solid Dodger fan frustration.
