Dodgers News: Tony Gonsolin Optioned to Alternate Site, Mitch White Recalled

After 4 scoreless innings on Friday night, the Cat Man goeth. The Dodgers announced that it had optioned right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin to the USC alternate site and recalled RHP Mitchell White.

The 25-year-old White, who appeared in summer camp intrasquad games with the Dodgers, is set to make his MLB debut when he gets into a game. After optioning RHP Josh Sborz on Friday ahead of Gonsolin’s start, the LA bullpen was down one arm. Moreover, with starters still not pitching deep into games, and Clayton Kershaw set to make his season debut on Sunday after a two-week injury layoff, White figures to offer Dave Roberts a long reliever over the next few games.

The San Jose, CA native struggled at triple-A Oklahoma City last year posting a 6.50 ERA in 16 games (13 starts) while battling through injuries and control issues. Altogether, the Dodgers’ number 11 prospect (as ranked by MLB) has a 14-15 record and 3.97 ERA in 294.2 innings pitched across 4 minor league seasons.

The Dodgers currently have 5 rookie arms on their pitching staff

    1. He wouldn’t be pitching again for the next 4 days anyway and they need his spot for a reliever. It makes perfect sense.

  1. So when a player performs well they get optioned? Just makes me hate Dave Roberts even more, what a stupid manager for use of a better word.

  2. Guess I cant make an opinion on Dave Roberts terrible managing. My original comment didn’t post. Alot of people like the man, he does have a good vocabulary, he can talk his way out of the real topic. His terrible managing.

  3. Totally agree people now days and sports fans especially Dodgers when r we going to say enough is enough w Dave Roberts ?? Cant agree more great vocabulary great ra ra manger for players yet he has been out managed at every pressure moment in playoffs and World Series literally out managed …pulling pitchers and worse his lineups ??? Go w the numbers lol wins games yet get out managed in World Series and last yr by nationals clearly out managed and screw ur numbers …. last night walked a diamondback batter looked at the plate awful and pitched to the diamondbacks hottest hitter???? yet dodgers fans soft and passive now days……. keep mouth shut keep on W Hollywood BS … And Puig????? Dodgers have no backbone rt now ….. couple yrs ago yes

  4. I’ve been a fan of Friedman’s FO from day 1 but I’d really like to hear from him and Roberts how Wood gives the team a better chance to win than Gonsolin. The only answer is that Tony Smokes is getting Kris Bryanted. And Clint you need to swap Verdugo for someone else in your signature big guy.

  5. It’s so predictable with the Dodgers. They like to jerk around the pitching prospects. Will we ever get to see these guys all in the rotation together fully unleashed? When will we finally be rid of the washed up vet pickups that block these guys

  6. Robert had it right. Friedman is a master at using his whole roster. Why have a guy sit on the bench for 4 days when you can bring in a fresh arm? Bring up a guy you can use and get him some big league experience. Consoling will be back and we all know it!
And btw, Roberts doesn’t make these calls. And if the trashcan steps didn’t cheat Roberts was leading the team to a WS trophy.

    1. You mean he was leading them until him and Friedman threw game 2 changing the whole series. I still say they win despite the cheating if it wasn’t for that.
