Dodgers News: Top Coach Interviewed by Guardians for Managerial Opening

As the Dodgers enter into their offseason, it seems that there is a good chance they could lose one of their top coaches to one of the open managerial positions across baseball. First base coach Clayton McCullough has been talked about for manager roles in the past but has always been passed over.

However, the Cleveland Guardians recently interviewed McCullough as they look to replace longtime skipper Terry Francona. Cleveland seemed to come away impressed, and it now seems that LA could lose McCullough.

“The Guardians’ search for manager Terry Francona’s replacement continues. They recently interviewed Dodger first base coach Clayton McCullough. The Guardians, according to a source, came away impressed.”

If McCullough does leave the team, LA would have a big position of need to fill. He has been with the team for quite some time, but the team knows this is a possibility. With all the on-field success that the Dodgers have seen over the years, other teams have taken notice, and they want to bring in guys from the organization to try to duplicate it.

McCullough could be exactly the type of manager that the Guardians are looking for after all his time with the Dodgers organization. He can bring a winning culture, and a hard nose for analytics to the table.

“Cleveland’s front office is said to currently be making calls around the big leagues vetting their candidates. They are looking for a young manager who can handle analytics, in-game strategy and the clubhouse to replace Francona who is stepping aside after 11 successful years in Cleveland.”

Per Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com

He is only 43 years old as well, so there is plenty of time for him to grow with any team that was to hire him. McCullough deserves a chance to show what he can do, and while it would be sad to see him leave, LA would be very supportive of him furthering his career.
