Dodgers News: Trea Turner Gets Hit in the Head and Embarrasses Pitcher on Next Pitch

Everybody knows about the infamous Trea Turner slide. The dude even has a whole GIF about it:

But during Sunday afternoon’s game, Turner’s slide had a lot more context and emotion behind it than the usual smooth and casual glide.

After the Dodgers lost 2-1 in a tough matchup against Marlins’ Sandy Alcantara, LA was prepared to eliminate chances of it happening again the next game. With an early 3-1 lead, the MLB leader for hits this season stepped up to the plate and was greeted by a pitch straight to the face from Edward Cabrera.

The two-time All-Star shook it off, took his base and Freeman followed up to the plate. After the first pitch to the former MVP, Turner took his free base with an elegant slide to rub it in the Dominican pitcher’s face.

Watch the series of events here:

Now Turner is not one to create drama but the choice to steal the base for his 21st time this season was a perfect payback towards Cabrera. Glad to see that he’s okay after absolutely eating the 96 MPH fastball that dropped him to the floor.

The Dodgers went on to claim a 8-1 victory over the Marlins to improve their overall record to a league best 88-38 with a .698 win percentage. They now lead the NL West by 19.5 games and only need 16 more wins to secure the title.

Up Next

The series will close out tomorrow in a wraparound series, as the Dodgers look to win the series and inch closer to 90 wins. Dodgers Cy Young candidate, Tony Gonsolin will be on the hill facing off against righty Pablo Lopez for a 3:40 PM PT start time.
