Dodgers News: Watch LA Prospect Go Head-to-Head with Instagram Celebrity
The Dodgers have long been a financial giant in terms of spending money to lure in big-time free agents. That has led to the idea that LA has been able to field competitive teams due to that spending. However, Los Angeles takes pride in producing top-notch talent from within its farm system. Just take a look at their roster right now and you’ll find no shortage of homegrown stars.
Of course, they have other big names on the rise such as Diego Cartaya, Bobby Miller, Miguel Vargas, etc. Yet, not every prospect is highlighted by rankings or is even well known by the fanbase. Take LHP Ronan Kopp for example. The 6-foot-7 lefty was taken in the 12th round of the 2021 MLB Draft. That might explain why few know he exists, but everyone should know soon enough.
Former minor leaguer and now content creator, Eric Sim, may have helped get the Dodgers prospect’s name out into the world after he recruited Kopp to throw to him in a video. While Sim claims to be a great hitter, Kopp makes him look absolutely silly.
Content warning, the video contains some salty language.
Kopp topped off at 98 MPH to go along with some filthy offspeed pitches in the video. Kopp who actually turned just 20 years old on Friday, is having a fantastic season at Low-A with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes where he’s posted a 1.61 ERA in 20 games (6 starts) with 80 strikeouts and 28 walks.
The southpaw currently isn’t ranked within the Dodgers’ top 30 prospects, but if he continues to pitch the way he is, then he should definitely nab a spot sometime next year. The Dodgers could surely use someone with his skill set at the big league level, yet if that happens will depend on his ability to develop.
