Dodgers News: What are the Chances Trea Turner is Back in 2023?

Are you worried about Trea Turner’s impending free agency? Do you think he may prefer to go to an east coast team? Do you want to know all the latest rumors on Turner as we get set for postseason play?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then good news: you’re in the right place! Our Doug McKain broke down all the rumors on the All-Star shortstop, and has everything you need to know about his upcoming offseason:

The biggest question regarding Turner will probably end up being who coughs up the biggest amount of money. The Dodgers elected not to match the 10-year, $325 million contract Corey Seager got from the Rangers last season, so it’ll be interesting to see if they feel similarly with Trea.

Do you want the Dodgers to re-sign Turner? And how confident are you he’s back in Dodger Blue next season? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. I say I say Isay there boy…resigning that man is as straightforward as is the road between Dallas and Fort Worth…no curves that is.

    1. I say yes to signing but my concern is that if we go over what we refused with Corey, it will be a “slap” to Corey and with what Corey has done for the Dodgers during his tenure would be an insult!

      1. Ummmmm…. Why does that even matter??!! I’m pretty sure Corey wouldn’t even care. Why would he? He got his money…
If you were in Friedman’s shoes, you’d seriously hesitate to resign an elite SS like T. Turner all because you’re afraid of offending a former player?? Good thing you don’t work for the Dodgers front office…

      2. Yeah but Corey was always hurt. So paying that money for a shortstop that mite spend half the contract on the dl.

  2. There is a great genuine chemistry, competitiveness and leadership with Trea Turner, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. I think it is worth it to sign him to 8 years guaranteed with options for 2 more years for a total package of us$325 to 350. It is what it is. But losing that mixture of TT, MB and FF makes it harder to win multiple World Series championships and that is the goal now and for the next 2-4 years. … otherwise there really isn’t a Dodger Dynasty now. Go LAD

  3. To Mr. Richard Washington: Anybody who doesn’t want to sign Trea Turner has to be about as sharp as a bowling ball.

  4. 50/50. If he wants to stay with a great organization that wins, then he stays and the Dodgers and they will pay him a lot of money. If he wants top dollar, the Phil’s may pay him. Either way, he will be paid generational money.

  5. Gonna depend on some other team willing to over spend either on AAV or length of the contract. I think it will come down to the length of the contract. Corey got 10 years as he is younger. AAV is pretty much set at $32.5 to $35M per year. I see Philly as our biggest competition.

  6. Sign him to 325-350 over 10 years w last 2 with options .. so average is 32.5 to 35 per year.. his chemistry w others along w his professionalism, day-to-day passion to play everyday and of course his skills.. matches up w LAD’s desire to win multi World Series Championships now.

  7. If he fails to deliver in the postseason, then they should let him go. I never thought that I would say this.

  8. Resign him. If we dont, gavin lux is our future. He cant field. Trea is a better option than corey seager was. He is better overall shortstop

    1. Trea is also faster on the bases than Corey was. Then there’s the health issue. While Trea may be older, he’s also less prone to injury than Corey is. Corey’s height may be a factor in his injuries.

      1. Trea is only a year older than Corey. Trea makes fewer errors (I think) than Corey did. Slugging is kind of a toss-up. Trea’s definitely better on the bases than Corey, but Corey still has speed. Corey has to take some time to work up to his speed, like running out a triple, while Trea has dash speed and doesn’t slow down (not that Corey slowed down). I was sad to see Corey leave, but happier to get a better replacement in TT. I hope the Dodgers make a deal to keep TT around for at least another 5-7 years.

  9. Yes LA should resign Trea Turner. As a lifelong fan since the 1959 WS against the White Sox, the 2022 Dodgers have been the best LA team in my lifetime! Why break up a good thing?

    1. Me too….since 1959 I still remember Vinnie saying ‘We’re going to Chicago!’

  10. Turner hits for average, has speed and is good defensively. Sign him if possible. Red Sox SS is also a free agent.

  11. Trea has done a lot for the Dodgers and I would hate to see him go. Hope he can be resigned as his talents are close to irreplaceable. Need to keep him!!

  12. Yes I want to see Trea Turner come back. I think he should get paid a lot more and I hope the Dodgers organization realize’s he’s worth much more

  13. All depends on where Turner wants to play. Most baseball people say back east but who really knows?.Dodgers could free up the money by non tendering Bellinger (17 milli) and letting Price and others come off the books. Personally, I think he wants outta here to go home but as always, money talks.

    1. Regardless of where he goes, he’ll get paid. The question is how important is winning to him?

  14. Friedman probably offers 7-8 years with high AAV. Hopefully by now Trae has made some real good friends with the likes of Freeman, Betts, and others. That always helps. He did say in an interview about 1-2 months ago that after the trade last year, he was frustrated, but has since settled in to the SoCal scene. That was good news….so we’ll see.

  15. I followed this guy to the Dodgers once the Nats were blown up. His thing to date has not been money first, but rather to have some control in the outcome and where he’ll be. He wants to win, and I think he will take a shorter term to stay in the situation he is in. I believe he has enough respect for Freddie to not to ask for a contract that blows his away. He will accept a 5-7 year deal for 150 to 200 mill from the Dodgers, keeping the band together and able to pay the pitchers and position players that need to be signed. As far as the other teams that are mentioned the Cubs are a longer term project and he hates playing in the cold, the Yankees will spend the money on Judge or have a fan revolt, Atlanta will sign Swanson after the Freddie debacle last year, Boston is ready to sign Xander, the Phillies can make offers to Correa and Trea. They have chance with a Trea but don’t offer the opportunity to win multiple rings like LA, Correa will go to the money.

  16. I was disappointed when we let Corey Seager leave – what a talent he is! Letting Trea Turner leave will be an equally big mistake.

  17. NO—he is not a team player: arrogant ball hog who made too many errors; takes a random swing at “too many balls way outside” especially in situations with men on base. There are several excellent candidates that may be a better fit and without bankrupting us.

  18. To me this is a no brainer. A valuable asset, the numbers speak for themselves. Agreed it will cost a butt load of money butit should be done, unless of course he wants the east coast.

  19. I feel Turner is important to this team. Hopefully he’ll wanna be with a team who’s in the playoffs every year.

  20. They can’t let him go. The reason why we won as many games we did was the pressure of all the speed the dodgers have while the other teams worry about the power from the speed guys as well. This team is a perfect team and if they keep it they can break the win record in a season in the next couple of years.

  21. Speed, Hitting for average, good defense and a prime spot after Mookie in the big 3. Also appears to be good clubhouse presence. Sign him up!

  22. Yes, I want Trae Turner to stay with the Dodgers. He’s a great player all around. Speed, power, gets a lot of base hits. Almost a 200 hit season. 100 RBI. He is well worth it. I hope the Dodgers pay him and sign him

  23. Trea is all around best high dollar player: fast, great defense, hitting, not injured (like corey). But, we have other guys eager to fill his shoes. I want trea signed for 10 yrs.

  24. Dodgers need to give Trea Turner a blank check and let him fill in the amount. He’s so much better than Corey Seager, and WAY more fun to watch.

  25. Yes, resign Trea, he has proven his worth. I am also a fan since ’59, still remember Vinnie saying ‘We’re going to Chicago!.’

    1. Money off the books – David Price + Kimbrel + Bellinger [non-tender] Gallo = $50 million next year. Another $17 million after 2023 – Justin Turner. But they need CBT room for Rodon [free agency this winter], Ohtani [after 2023] and Soto [after 2024]. And they are committed to Betts for too many years and Freeman for 5 more years. Of the minor leaguers who would play at the minimum [$700,000] can Vargas play left field next year? Can Outman or Pages play center field next year to replace Bellinger? Gavin Stone, Pepiot, Michael Grove, Bobby Mitchell – one of these four needs to take a rotation spot.
