Dodgers News: Will Venable Designated for Assignment, Carlos Frias Recalled and More
The Los Angeles Dodgers will begin their 4-game home stand vs. the San Diego Padres with Hyun-Jin Ryu on the mound. In order to make room for him on the active roster the team announced some moves.
The Dodgers officially reinstated Ryu on Thursday from the 60-day disabled list, and designated Will Venable for assignment. The Dodgers also sent left-hander Luis Avilan to Triple-A OKC and recalled right-handed pitcher Carlos Frias.

From Jon Weisman, MLB.com:
Frias was recalled June 19 by the Dodgers but did not pitch before being optioned June 21 back to Oklahoma City. Since then, he has allowed three runs in 12 innings with two walks and seven strikeouts, including two outings of at least five innings. He made 17 appearances for the Dodgers in 2015, 13 as a starter.

Manager Dave Roberts spoke about what he expects from Ryu’s first game back.
“To expect what (Brandon) McCarthy did the first time out, that’s a high expectation,” Roberts told MLB.com’s Jon Weisman, “but I know Ryu’s going to do everything he can to give us a chance to win tonight.”
The Dodgers look to continue to get healthy as they have a few days off for the 2016 All-Star break.
