Dodgers, NL Rival Named Most ‘Logical’ Trade Destinations For Tarik Skubal

The Los Angeles Dodgers arguably boast the deepest and most talented starting pitching rotation in all of baseball.

While many teams would be thrilled with the depth and quality of the group, Andrew Friedman isn’t going to rest on his laurels. In fact, various reports seem to indicate the Dodgers aiming to make the group even more potent with the possible acquisition of back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal.

With Skubal being a free agent at the end of the year, the Detroit Tigers face the reality where if the team doesn’t pony up a substantial amount of money, he could walk without anything coming back in return.

This scenario would be disastrous for a ballclub trying to climb into the upper-echelon of the American League.

Longtime MLB reporter Jon Heyman made an appearance on BRWalkoff on Monday afternoon. Touching on several topics, Skubal’s possible trade market came up.

Heyman contends that the Dodgers and the New York Mets likely are “the most logical spots” for Skubal to be dealt should the Tigers get to that point.

Both the Mets and Dodgers have the ammunition to get a deal done. Detroit theoretically would require a combination of young MLB-ready players coupled with high-end prospects. Even if just a rental, Skubal’s impact on either ballclub would be immense given how talented he is.

As it pertains to New York, young pitchers Jonah Tong and Brandon Sproat are intriguing arms. Infielders Ronny Mauricio, Brett Baty, and Luisangel Acuna also offer real upside — as do the organizations top-three prospects in Jett Williams, Carson Benge, and Nolan McLean.

The Dodgers are in a similar boat with an even more attractive package of possible assets to send to the Motor City. Comparative speaking, Emmet Sheehan and Justin Wrobleski are more established commodities compared to Tong and Sproat. Alex Freeland is a versatile young infielder who had been a top 100 prospects for years.

Lastly, the crown jewels within the Dodgers system, outfielders Josue De Paula and Zyhir Hope, are potential game-changers on the next level with proper development.

While the Dodgers don’t have to make a trade for Skubal, landing him would further cement the team’s standing as the favorite to win the World Series in 2026.

  1. I think if the Dodgers have already really good players in the minors like they say they have, then I say bring one up and play him, I mean really play him. Don’t
just play him a few games and say he can’t hit. Stop bragging about them how good they are. It sounds like the Dodgers are keeping good players in the minors to trade them to other teams.
