Dodgers Notes: Assessing the Padres, Gavin Stone’s Season Ends, Edgardo Henriquez Debuts
The Dodgers lost 4-2 to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night, losing on a rare ninth-inning triple play when Miguel Rojas grounded out with runners on first and second and none out. That stranded Shohei Ohtani on deck as the game ended, and left the Padres to celebrate their playoff berth on the field at Dodger Stadium.
The good news? The Dodgers get two more chances to extend their lead over the second-place Padres Wednesday and Thursday.

I’ve said this before and after last night’s loss via an avoidable triple play, I’ll say it again: If Robert’s refuses to play little ball in tight games, they will go nowhere in the post-season. Granted, they shouldn’t have put themselves in the ninth inning position at all, but there is no way they should have lost they way they did. The Padres are second in MLB in sacrifice bunts, the Dodgers are 27th. What does that tell you?
Someone needs to slap Freedie Freeman out of his lackadaisical oerformance over the past season. This is what many Dodgers fans have seen and talked about, the lack of a TRUE Dodgers player-leader, ala Kirk Gibson-type. Also, LA’s pitching staff will again is not food enough to win this year’s World Series that many talked about during this season. The Dodgers baseball personnel dept, keeps making critical mistakes signing injury-prone pitchers, reclamation projects, while NOT signing pitchers like Dylan Cease and Tanner Scott when they were available. We also have a major problem with Scoutmaster Dave Roberts, a nice enough guy, but someone who constantly makes critical mistakes under pressure situations. Last night, he dodged the question as to why he didn’t have Rojas bunt the runners over. He said the bunt sign was on for the 1st pitch, but not thereafter. A Vet like Rojas should’ve known better and bunted, but Roberts should’ve had him bunting for all three strikes, NOT letting Rojas hit away after the 1st pitch! Roberts’ strategic baseball sense is NOT in the class of what great managers have. LA will lose again this year, and if the Hedge Dund Dodgers’ ownership is smart, they’ll get a Tito Francona-type manager to lead them next year!
