Dodgers Notes; Freddie Freeman Injury, Alex Call Could Go on IL, Key Pitcher Almost Retired Before Joining LA

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Cincinnati Reds, 5-1, on Wednesday night behind Shohei Ohtani’s most strikeouts in a game this season (9), and most innings pitched as a Dodger (5). LA improved to 77-57 on the year as they swept the Reds.

In other news, Freddie Freeman was absent for the eventual victory as he is dealing with a stinger in his neck/shoulder area. The injury kept him out on Wednesday, but isn’t expected to be a long-term issue.

In more injury news, Alex Call has been dealing with an ailment of his own and had to leave Tuesday’s game early. Call’s back may be the reason that he serves an IL stint as manager Dave Roberts provided the latest.

Finally, a key pitcher revealed how close he was to retirement before joining the Dodgers. After playing an integral part in last year’s World Series run, and proving to be a staple in the bullpen this season, fans should exhale a sigh of relief that he didn’t hang up his cleats.
