Dodgers Notes: Garrett Crochet Rumors, All-Stars Revealed, and a Former Dodger Plans to Retire

The Dodgers didn’t play Monday while they traveled to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies, owners of baseball’s best record at 58-32. Here’s all the headlines you might have missed:

Dodgers Continue to Target Garrett Crochet Despite Rejected Offer

The Dodgers are reportedly not backing down from their pursuit of Garrett Crochet after their initial trade offer was rejected by the White Sox. As the trade deadline approaches, the Dodgers see Crochet as a potential game-changing addition to their pitching rotation. With a solid season under his belt — a 3.08 ERA and 146 strikeouts — Crochet represents a high-reward target. However, concerns about his endurance remain, as this season he’s already pitched more than 100 innings, a career high.

Six Dodgers Make the All-Star Game

Six Los Angeles Dodgers have been selected for the 2024 National League All-Star roster, highlighting the team’s talent and the recognition of their standout season. Will Smith, Teoscar Hernández, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Tyler Glasnow will join Shohei Ohtani, who was voted to start at designated hitter. This ensemble reflects the Dodgers’ strong performance leading up to the Midsummer Classic.

Kevin Pillar Set to Retire After 2024 Season

Former Dodgers outfielder Kevin Pillar is planning to retire at the end of the 2024 season. Currently with the Los Angeles Angels, Pillar has had a fruitful MLB career spanning nine different teams since his debut in 2013. Despite a tough season with the Dodgers in 2022 that was shortened due to a shoulder injury, Pillar has been performing well with the Angels.

Dodgers Release Jonathan Arauz

The Dodgers have released infielder Jonathan Arauz after an underwhelming performance at Triple-A Oklahoma City. Arauz struggled to hit consistently, posting a .227 batting average. This move comes one day after the Dodgers signed former Colorado Rockies shortstop Alan Trejo, a Los Angeles native, to a minor league contract and assigned him to Oklahoma City.
