Dodgers Notes: Huge Updates on Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, DFA’d Pitcher Finds New Home
Apparently, the Dodgers had been saving all their runs for the new guy.
Jack Flaherty’s first start as a Dodger ended with a six-hit shutout of the Oakland A’s. The Dodgers batted around in the ninth inning of a 10-0 win Saturday, leaving Kiké Hernandez to pitch the final inning and complete the shutout.
Here’s what else you might have missed Saturday:
Mookie Betts Poised for Return
Finally, a clear timeline has emerged for Mookie Betts’ return to the Dodgers lineup. Manager Dave Roberts pointed to Aug. 12-13, aligning with the team’s upcoming road trip to Milwaukee. Betts began swinging earlier this week after recovering from a hand fracture.
Freddie Freeman’s Anticipated Comeback
After more than a week on family emergency leave, Freddie Freeman is expected to potentially rejoin the Dodgers during their upcoming series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Before Saturday, the Dodgers’ run production had suffered in his absence.
Gus Varland Finds a New Team
Following his designation for assignment by the Dodgers, pitcher Gus Varland was picked up by the Chicago White Sox. Varland will recently traded Dodgers former teammate Miguel Vargas in Chicago’s South Side, where the Sox are on pace for a historically poor season.
