Dodgers Notes: LA Loses Ben Rortvedt, Linked to Devin Williams, Kyle Tucker Rumors

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost catcher Ben Rortvedt on waivers to the Cincinnati Reds in a move that had no indication of happening leading up to it. The backstop played a pivotal role for LA amid September injuries to All-Star backstop Will Smith and rookie Dalton Rushing ahead of the postseason, starting the first four games of the Dodgers’ eventual World Series run.

In other news, LA has made it no secret that they are looking to retool their roster for a third consecutive championship, and a major part of that will be how they address their bullpen situation. The Dodgers reportedly have mutual interest with relief pitcher Devin Williams once again (since he thought he was headed to LA last offseason), as their inconsistent bullpen will likely be upgraded ahead of 2026.

Finally, the Dodgers have been linked to All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker and his presumed $400 million contract. The soon-to-be 29-year-old would address the issue of outfield depth and lack of production at times, especially after the disappointing season from Michael Conforto in left field.

  1. I don’t think Tucker is worth $400 million dollars. If the Dodgers can get him for less great but I think Michael Kwan is more what the Dodgers need in the batting order, plus he is a Gold Glover and fast. He would also be much cheaper and has not suffered the injury issues now plaguing Tucker. Tucker also has a qualifying offer from the Cubs. And I think he wants to play with the Yankees. So… I also wouldn’t mind Devin Williams as I think he could fill several roles in the bullpen bedsides just being a closer. Diaz will want too much money and I do believe Scott will bounce back this year… And then there is always Roki Sasaki who would rather start but who would he replace in the rotation this year? And he has proven that in one or two innings he is great… Be interesting to see what Friedman does…

    1. The Dodgers reportedly won’t be the highest bidder for Tucker, and like Juan Soto, he will likely be overpaid. The front office is focused on strengthening their bullpen first and foremost, which makes sense given its struggles in 2025.
