Dodgers Notes: Major Injury Updates, Shohei Ohtani Could Miss Game, Will Smith Called Best Catcher in MLB

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Colorado Rockies, 4-3, on Monday evening to move to 71-54 on the year. Fortunately for LA, the San Diego Padres lost to the San Francisco Giants, so the Dodgers remain two games up in the National League West.

In other news, LA has some major injury updates to their squad as the most important stretch of the season intensifies. Both the pitching roster and position player side have some promising updates, looking to return well before October.

Additionally, manager Dave Roberts has revealed when superstar Shohei Ohtani’s next start will be as the series against the Rockies continues. It’s possible it results in him missing a game as the designated hitter during the team’s next contest.

Finally, All-Star catcher Will Smith was labeled the best catcher in baseball by his skipper. Roberts even went as far as saying that he would take Smith — who is tied for the lead the NL in batting average and leads in on-base percentage — over the league’s home run leader Cal Raleigh, backstop for the Seattle Mariners.
