The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Colorado Rockies, 8-3, on Wednesday, and fell to 72-55 on the year. The Dodgers’ National League West lead over the San Diego Padres dropped to one game.
Unfortunately, superstar Shohei Ohtani was not only roughed up on the mound — allowing nine hits which tied a career high and contributed to five earned runs — but was struck by a line drive on his thigh. He said after the game that his thigh feels “pretty good,” and his intention is to return Friday.
Before the game, the Dodgers sent down former All-Star pitcher Alexis Diaz. In a corresponding move, a right-hander from Triple-A was called up and eventually made his Dodgers debut.
In other news, Ohtani won’t play on Thursday after his “regrettable” Wednesday outing, but not because of being hit in the thigh. Manager Dave Roberts made the choice to give the pitcher/DH the day off before Wednesday’s contest.
Finally, the Dodgers have been linked to All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman in free agency. Although he played for the rival Houston Astros that were involved in a cheating scandal that helped them take the 2017 World Series over LA, his undeniable talent in the batter’s box could be something that helps wash away the pain he contributed to Dodgers fans eight years ago.
