Dodgers Notes: Shohei Ohtani Makes History, Could Play Outfield, Unfortunate Will Smith Update

The Los Angeles Dodgers blanked the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-0, on Wednesday thanks to southpaw Blake Snell tossing a season-high 12 strikeouts (which he serendipitously did during a Sept. 17 start last season, as well), and home runs from Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani. LA improved to 85-67 on the year.

In other news, Ohtani made even more history on Tuesday night, joining elite company. Many remember the historic 50-home run/ 50-stolen base club the three-time MVP created last season, but Ohtani did something just as impressive with his 50th long ball of this year.

Additionally, to further the greatness of Ohtani, he recently touched on the idea of playing in the outfield for the Dodgers in the postseason. He only played out there seven times as member of the Los Angeles Angels, but has a little more experience back in Nippon Professional Baseball.

Finally, there is an unfortunate update on All-Star catcher Will Smith. The backstop was recently placed on the injured list, and with October right around the corner, the hope is that he can get healthy as soon as possible.

  1. My final thought on Dave Roberts as a manager.
Perhaps it is time to have a WAR for managers? Unfortunately, I believe Dave Roberts would rank at the bottom if such a measurement exists.
