Dodgers Notes: Will Smith Injury, Blake Snell Suffers Setback, Luis Robert Trade Update
The Los Angeles Dodgers got swept by the Chicago Cubs, losing the second of the two-game set, 7-6. L.A. is now 16-9 on the year.
The second Wrigley Field loss was without All-Star catcher Will Smith. After waking up with a sore wrist, Smith utilized the impending off day to take Wednesday off and let his body recover.
Unfortunately, there was more severe injury news as Blake Snell suffered a setback on his return to the mound. The two-time Cy Young award winner has been shut down from throwing for the time being, as his return timeline becomes murkier.
Finally, there may be more traction on the potential trade talks between the Dodgers and the Chicago White Sox surrounding Luis Robert. A key insider believes the All-Star will be moved before the deadline and with relative ease, given his contract.

Say what you will about the proficiency of Andrew Friedman and of him going out to make the dodgers a better team, but he has a deficiency, a blind spot, when it comes to letting certain players go before he has suitable replacements or when he should know better, given prior experience. For example, knowing his pitching staff, in this case his starting rotation, goes down with injuries year after year, he lets Flaherty and Buehler both go, and is now faced with a depleted starting staff once again. Which is going to put added pressure on the bullpen and we know what that can do and what it has done in the past. It appears at times that Friedman doesn’t heed the lesson facing him. Also, the Dodgers are playing poorly against the better teams right now and don’t look better than last year at this time. So, the question must be asked, who goofed? I’ve got to know! While Friedman can go out and spend enough money to cover his deficits, it may catch up to him at some point.
