The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially activated Emmet Sheehan off the 60-day injured list 13 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He will pitch against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night.
To make room on the active roster, right-handed pitcher Matt Sauer was optioned.

The last time Sheehan took the mound in a Dodgers uniform was Game 1 of the 2023 NLDS. He has had quite the road back to MLB, but Wednesday will mark the culmination of his hard work, and the beginning of his next chapter as a Dodger.
Sheehan had a promising 2023 campaign after posting a 2.43 ERA across 15 Triple-A and Double-A appearances that season. When he made it up to the big leagues, he posted a 4.92 ERA over 60.1 innings of work to go along with 64 strikeouts and 26 walks.
Sheehan did a great job of generating swings and misses on his offerings, doing so 29.6 percent of the time. That graded the right-hander in the 74th percentile of active pitchers in 2023.
His four-seam fastball was another element of his game that separated himself from the majority of the league as his average velocity of 95.4 mph put him in the 75th percentile of hurlers that year. When hitters did make contact, however, it was hit 95 mph or faster 42 percent of the time, just the 27th percentile of active pitchers in ’23.
Sheehan was formerly one of 14 pitchers on the injured list but will make his season debut for a team that desperately needs depth on the mound.
It was just two years and two days ago that Sheehan first debuted in MLB and tossed six scoreless innings against the rival San Francisco Giants.
Sheehan now returns to the bump against another divisional foe amid an extremely tense four-game series. He will hope to have another successful outing and provide some more talent to the ailing pitching roster.

He could be traded too.
They should not trade Emmet. He had an electric fastball; and his other pitches were good back in 2023. His first couple starts were good; his few starts in the middle were bad; and his few at the end were good. He made adjustments and then blew out his arm. I watched the game tonight; and he was solid. 1 earned run and he ended his night with three consecutive K’s. And — no walks in four innings. Dustin May will be a free agent after this season. He has had 6 quality starts; but he still has a negative WAR. Bobby Miller got all the hype in 2023. Emmet was quietly 4 and 1 with 1 save. I would say that he will be in the rotation at least until both Glasnow and Snell return. He could be secret weapon #2 behind Ben Casparius after that.
Much kudos to the youngsters Sheehan, Wrobleski, Kim, and Rushing. They shined tonight really well in the clutch with all the pressure against the Padres. Funny they did better than our other “Big Dogs”. I’d be remiss to not mention Pages again showed Shildt who he is. Good job by all.
A team that turns away ice- what a wholesome image. Hey folks, the laws are for suckers. I’m guessing a family guy like Freeman wishes he could bail that dump.
