Dodgers Offseason: Mets Expected to Be Major Players in Verlander and Rodon Sweepstakes Now
It never becomes easier for the Dodgers. With Jacob deGrom now off the market all eyes are set on Justin Verlander and where he will ultimately land.
The Dodgers have been caught in the Verlander sweepstakes as they look for some much needed pitching help, but with deGrom now off the team the Mets have emerged as a potential destination. This gives the Dodgers a new obstacle to hurdle in more ways than not.
deGrom is six years younger than Verlander, but his bank breaking amount is something Verlander will want to keep an eye on. The Mets and Dodgers will have to battle it out of who can offer Verlander more per year despite not having to pay him over a five year period.
While Verlander remains on the radar, Giants pitcher Carlos Rodon is also a name to keep an eye on for the Mets. It’s not certain Rodon finds himself in the NL West again with the Dodgers, but the Mets have no issue with bringing him in (via SNY).
As SNY reported earlier, the pursuit of American League Cy Young winner Justin Verlander is now “front and center.” According to sources, the team will also circle back to agent Scott Boras about his client Carlos Rodon, with whom they spoke via Zoom this week. The Mets are determined to land one of those two aces.

The Dodgers need to control their fate and make a move for Verlander if they want to land a top pitcher this free agency. The Mets have a lot of power and can easily ruin any plans the Dodgers may have had.

Verlander to LA, Rodon to NY.
Hopefully Boras will pull his normal schtick and over-market Rodon to the mets and the Dodgers get a two year deal with Verlander. The first team that offers J.V. a three year deal will land him. God help Us!
IMHO, Senga is the next Walker Buehler. Not yet, but eventually.
12/5/22. Great to see the Mets overpaid for JV…2 yr @ 86.66M. Two 40 yr.old pitchers reunited because the Mets got desperate after DeGrom left. Dodger fans don’t fret because these guys will not be effective when postseason comes. Three of them have high mileage on their arms… Scherzer taps out, JV 1-6, 5.63 era in WS, DeGrom won’t last being the main dog for Texas.
