Dodgers Player Beyond Excited for Dave Roberts Contract Extension

A true mark of a leader can be how well they are received by their team.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have finally agreed to a contract extension with manager Dave Roberts, making him the highest-paid manager in the history of baseball in terms of average annual value with a four-year, $32.4 million extension through 2029.

Two World Series titles, four National League pennants, and eight divisional titles in nine seasons are certainly grounds for becoming the highest-paid skipper in the game, but something just as valuable as a .627 winning percentage is his bond with the players.

After inking this massive deal, some key Dodgers spoke on the importance of their manager securing this extension. Third baseman Max Muncy expressed his joy while also making a joke about the new contract.

“We’re all excited,” Muncy said to USA Today Sports. “I couldn’t be happier for him. I already told him that dinner is on him.”

Veteran infielder Miguel Rojas, who is recognized as a leader in the clubhouse among the Dodgers, also expressed his appreciation for the new deal.

“He deserves this so much,” Rojas said. “He’s put in the time. He’s been through a lot, you know. He’s always mentioned how special it’s been for him to be the manager of this ballclub, and how special it is to be in front of this clubhouse and this franchise.

“He embodies what it means to be a good leader. And that’s what I really care about, the personality, the character and always communicating with everybody. That’s why I gave him a big hug today because I know how hard it’s been.”

With news that Freddie Freeman would be out for Game 4 of the NLDS — when L.A. was on the brink of elimination — Rojas then had to let Roberts know he, too, would be out with injury. Roberts responded to the veteran with a proclamation that he has already completed half of, and is on his way to fully proving to be true.

“Miggy, we’re going to win the World Series this year, and we’re going to win it next year together,” Roberts said to Rojas at the time.

Roberts will do his best to captain this talented roster to another title ahead of his 10th season with the team.
