Dodgers Prospect Acquired in Gavin Lux Trade Already Promoted After Dominant Start

The Los Angeles Dodgers surprisingly moved on from longtime infielder and former top prospect Gavin Lux this offseason.

After a red-hot second half of the season for the eventual World Series champions, the Dodgers decided to start fresh, sending Lux to the Cincinnati Reds for a prospect and a draft pick.

While Lux has thrived at the MLB level since the trade, hitting .282 with one home run, 18 runs batted in and an OPS of .767, the prospect the Dodgers acquired for him has thrived at the minor league level — and on Tuesday, officially got one step closer to the major leagues.

Outfielder Mike Sirota, who turns 22 in June, got the promotion from Single-A to High-A after a red-hot start to the 2025 campaign at Rancho Cucamonga.

In 24 games, Sirota slashed .354/.444/.687 with seven home runs, 24 RBIs, 17 extra-base hits and an OPS of 1.130. He was proving to be too good for Single-A, so he’s now joined High-A Great Lakes.

Sirota wasted no time in his debut for the Great Lakes Loons, as he batted leadoff, and went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

While Sirota is still a few years away from making his MLB debut, he appears to be yet another great hitting prospect who will come through the Dodgers system.

  1. Sirota was playing in a league of younger, less experience players. Let us see how he does with players of his age and level of experience. The Dodgers gave up on Lux too early [OPS lifetime .712. .765 today], perhaps thinking the Hyesong Kim was better than he is. Kim is more versatile, though. Lux’ OPS [.765] is above the current league average OPS [.712]. Maybe getting a first round draft pick and Sirota will play out long term better than keeping Lux, but it seems not so for this year. Edman seems better than Lux. Maybe the thought was Edman would be taking the at bats that Lux would be getting, with Lux in the lineup Edman would not get the at bats he deserved.
