Dodgers Recall Gavin Stone from AAA, Kershaw on Bereavement, Suero DFA, More Roster News

Today, the Braves will get Stone’d when the Dodgers rookie takes on the mound for the 4:20 LA start time in Atlanta. Ok… sorry about that. Rookie right-hander Gavin Stone makes his second career start for the Dodgers today and will face a tough test with the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves. In order to get Stone on the active roster, the team had to make a roster move. They made a couple.

Clayton Kershaw was officially placed on the bereavement leave list where he’ll be for a few days. He’ll be back before his next start in Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Additionally, RHP Wander Suero was designated for assignment and RHP Tayler Scott has joined the team.

Stone will have his work cut out for him against the 29-19 Braves lineup. He made his MLB debut in LA earlier this month and allowed 4 runs over 4 innings in a no decision against the Phillies. The 24-year-old allowed 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out only one batter. Since returning to AAA, he’s been exceptional allowing just 3 earned runs over 11 IP.

Suero allowed a 3 run home run in Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals and has not fared well for the Dodgers whenever he’s pitched for them. Not a big loss for LA.

The journeyman Tayler Scott has pitched well at Triple-A this season, posting a 1.06 ERA over 16 games. Before inking a minor league deal with LA this winter, the 31-year-old pitched just about everywhere around baseball — including Japan. Originally drafted by the Cubs in the fifth round of the 2011 draft, Scott made his MLB debut with the Mariners in 2019. He’s also seen big league time with the Orioles and Padres for a few games last year.

Stone Brewing, Miller Time Next

The worst-kept secret in baseball also got one step closer to happening as rookie Bobby Miller had a locker in the visiting clubhouse in Atlanta. The Dodgers have yet to confirm that he’s starting on Tuesday, but… he’s starting on Tuesday.

Miller has struggled so far this season at AAA after shoulder soreness pushed his season debut back a few weeks. However, he’s coming off his best performance of the season with a 6 inning, 1 run victory.
