Dodgers Recall J.T. Chargois, Option Buehler
On Saturday morning before a match-up with the Colorado Rockies, the Dodgers called up Chargois from Oklahoma City after being demoted mid-May. This move most likely comes as a bullpen relief tactic as the pen has been heavily taxed over the 11 games played against the Cubs and Mets. The hard throwing righty brings the Dodger roster back to a full 25 players after Walker Buehler was reassigned to the Dodgers’ high-A team.

In the 2018 season, Chargois has a record of 2-1 and has compiled a healthy strike out rate of 12.2 per 9 innings
pitched and was becoming a favorite for Manager Dave Roberts in high leverage mid-inning situations. Chargois had a successful run early in the season from March 29th-May 8th in which he compiled the
following stats:
- 13 IP
- 1.35 ERA
- 1.05 WHIP
- 3.54 FIP
However, he was demoted after compiling 8 earned runs and 11 hits in his next 5 outings. Combined, Chargois has the following stats going into Saturday’s game against the Rockies:
- 17 IP
- 4.76 ERA
- 1.71 WHIP
- 4.21 FIP
Analysis
Chargois has flashed potential in his short time with the Dodgers. He has proved he can strike out big league hitters at a respectable rate. If Chargois can limit the amount of walks he allows and command his fastball well he will find success once more. Assuming he can maintain the excellent peripheral stats he acquired in 15 games at triple-A which consisted of a 1.80 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 15 games, Chargois will provide immediate aid to a recently successful but tired bullpen.
