Dodgers Reportedly Interested in Nolan Arenado in Potential Blockbuster Trade
On Sunday, baseball fans were sent into a frenzy after All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado posted a series of photos on Instagram along with the song “dodger blue” by Kendrick Lamar. There have now been reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers have interest in adding Arenado this offseason.
It’s widely known that the St. Louis Cardinals are open to trading the 10-time Gold Glove winner since the organization will be using 2025 as time to rebuild the team. Randy Miller, New York Yankees beat reporter for NJ.com, gave some insight on the potential Arenado trade.
“One guy that could be a possibility [for the Yankees] is Arenado from St. Louis,” Miller said on WFAN Radio. “I think the Cardinals are trying to trade him, St. Louis would have to pick up some of the money and maybe the Yankees could have a deal where they trade some prospects. … I keep hearing it’s going to be either the Yankees or the Dodgers — I think he’s a West Coast guy that would prefer to go to the Dodgers and I think the Dodgers want him.”

Arenado, 34, has publicly said that he hopes to play meaningful October baseball in the coming seasons, a feat he likely won’t accomplish in St. Louis for some time. The third baseman is a Southern California native and grew up in the Orange County area.
At first, the song choice on Arenado’s Instagram post seemed nothing outside of music preference. But after reports surfaced about the Dodgers’ interest in the third baseman, it seems that Arenado’s song choice was a bit more strategic.
Could he have posted that song to indicate his preferred trade destination? We likely won’t ever know the answer, but Arenado is certainly a player who embraces the west coast.
It would be interesting if Arenado did in fact join the reigning World Series champions since the lineup already includes Max Muncy at third base. If the team brought in Arenado to play third base, Muncy would have to go back to second base, pushing Mookie Betts to shortstop.

You add Muncy in the trade, then the cardinals can flip Max for more prospects, please Friedman don’t bring in Mookie to play short it doesn’t work, second maybe, you have Miggy and other options for shortstop, Lux can also be part of trade. Remember The cardinals have no leverage if they don’t want to eat some of the money left on the contract the dodgers won’t have to give up top prospects
MiggyRo can not hit the pool if he trips on the deck. As a veteran he has the edge over giving SS to Alex Freeland. As awesome as Mookie is, he is not a fit at SS. Bring back “Tio” Oscar & sign Alex Bregman. Lux is an excellent trade option.
This does not make sense for the Dodgers, Muncy is currently a better hitter than Arenado, whose time has passed. Muncy is no longer a second baseman and there are Betts and Lux ahead of him at 2B.
And they should not be taking on extra payroll responsibilities for players not on the 2024 roster unless the deal is too good to pass up (1) or truly game changing (2): So spending some money would be OK for (1) Sasaki and Crochet [very inexpensive]; or (2) Soto [a 5th first ballot HOF to go with the 4 already on the team, Betts, Freeman, Ohtani, Kershaw] who would make the line-up very hard for opposing pitchers to deal with.
As a power hitter, yes Muncy is better. But Arenado is a much better defender and even if he is not hitting HRs hes a better contact hitter. Muncy is a Walk/SO/HR guy. We need contact hitters not the boom or bust. I also think Arenado revives his bat playing for a team that gives him the chance at the postseason.
#50 at Shortstop doesn’t work. Been there, done that. #13 and #9 need to be included in this trade. #25 and #8 can fill in to rest the infield. There are other options. We don’t need an uncalibrated rocket launcher arm at Shortstop.
Trade Munchie and Lux for Arenado. Seems a no-brainer to me.
The only way I see Arenado in a Dodger uniform is if Ryan Helsley is included in a deal and the Dodgers pick up some of Arenado’s salary. Can Arenado or Muncy play left field? That’s a stretch.
Mookie can play short but 2b is a better fit and will help him focus on the offensive side.
Edman and Rojas can play short. If you get Nolan then both Lux and Muncy can go, Mincy in this trade, Lux for others. I like both guys. It’s not personal, Sonny, it’s business.
I tried to post the other day; but my post did not go through. But anyway—unless Arenado has a significant rebound; Max is a much better option. Yes, Nolan is a better fielder, however, he is on a downward trend. But Max is no slouch. At the plate, hard to believe, but Max is much better. Last two years, Max had OBP of .333 and .358. Arenado had .315 and .325. WAR last two years, Max had 2.6 and 3.0. Arenado had 2.4 and 2.5. Max had a total of 719 plate appearances. Arenado had 1247!!! Max had a total of 5.6 WAR to Arenado’s 4.9 WAR in 528 less plate appearances. Max works the pitchers. He had 45 more walks total. Once again, in 528 less plate appearances. Sorry, Nolan, it is time to pass.
