The Dodgers finally got some good news regarding one of their injured starters. While there is currently no timeline for Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell to return, another staple of the rotation is set to take a huge first step in his recovery.

Manager Dave Roberts revealed Roki Sasaki will start a throwing progression this week, which would be the first step in the right-hander ramping back up.

The Dodgers placed Sasaki on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement on May 13. The rookie was coming off a rough start in which he gave up five earned runs, two walks, and threw zero strikeouts across four-plus innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

However, the right-hander was already dealing with shoulder issues and decided to push through anyways so he could help a depleted Dodgers rotation.

Sasaki has a 4.42 ERA with 24 strikeouts and a 1.485 WHIP across eight starts this season. While the rookie has yet to find his rhythm in Major League Baseball, he revealed he planned on making necessary improvements during his stint on the IL.

“I do feel like this is a good time to do that, so I want to make sure that I’m fully healthy and to be able to address anything that I had so that it leads to better performance,” Sasaki said.

When the Dodgers signed Sasaki, it was with the understanding that he was not a finished product. While the Japanese fireballer has yet to look like himself, the time away on the IL may help Sasaki regroup once he’s back on the mound.
