Dodgers Roster News: Michael Grove, Victor Gonzalez Optioned to Minor Leagues

The Los Angeles Dodgers made some interesting roster moves on Friday that likely finalize the Opening Day roster. The team optioned RHP Michael Grove and LHP Victor Gonzalez to Triple-A, making it pretty clear what the team is going to do to start the season.

Ryan Pepiot is going to be the team’s No. 5 starter (as I suspected), and Andre Jackson is likely to get the final spot in the bullpen (also as I suspected).

With these moves, the roster is essentially finalized. Pepiot deserved the opportunity as the No. 5 starter, as he’s impressed in spring, and has more experience at the big league level from last season.

As for Jackson, I’ve already written about why I thought he deserved a spot on the Opening Day roster, so I’m glad Roberts and the Dodgers made that decision.

The Dodgers’ 26-man roster is pretty much finalized with these moves. The Dodgers play one more game at Camelback Ranch on Saturday, before coming back to Dodger Stadium on Sunday for the freeway series. Then, March 30, the season will officially get underway, with Julio Urias on the mound.

It’s almost time for Dodger baseball.
