Dodgers Roster News: Shelby Miller Placed on IL, Michael Grove Recalled to Start Wednesday’s Game
The Dodgers have made a roster move ahead of Wednesday’s second and final game of the series against the Angels. The team announced that RHP Michael Grove was recalled from the minor leagues to start Wednesday’s game. In a corresponding move, RHP Shelby Miller was placed on the injured list with what the team is calling neck pain.

Since Grove recently was optioned, the only way they would have been able to recall him is if someone was placed on the injured list, so that’s what they did.
Grove was optioned last week in place of RHP Emmet Sheehan, who threw six no-hit innings in his MLB debut. It was unclear whether Grove would be down for an extended period of time or if he’d be right back up, but clearly, it was just a quick stint.
Grove has struggled since coming off the injured list. He’s made three starts, and allowed four earned runs each time.
His velocity has been much higher, but he’s struggled with his command, leading to a major home run issue. In his 14 innings since coming off the IL, Grove has allowed six home runs, including four in his most recent outing against the Chicago White Sox.
Hopefully Grove is able to give the Dodgers a solid outing on Wednesday. He’s following in the footsteps of Clayton Kershaw, who threw seven shutout innings on Tuesday, playing the role of the stopper in a huge 2-0 win.
Ideally, Grove is able to give the Dodgers at least five innings and limit the home runs, putting his guys in a position to get a mini two-game series sweep ahead of this weekend’s matchup with the Houston Astros.
As for Miller, he’s been one of the better options for LA out of the bullpen this season. In 25 appearances, he’s thrown 30 innings, and has sported an impressive 2.40 ERA.
However, since coming off the bereavement list, he’s struggled with some neck pain. And after making just one appearance last week, he’s now on the injured list. Hopefully he feels better soon, as the Dodgers bullpen needs him to be healthy.
