Although the Los Angeles Dodgers have the best record in Major League Baseball, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman doesn’t usually sit idly by when the trade deadline rolls around.

The Dodgers reportedly discussed a potential trade with the Chicago White Sox for centerfielder Luis Robert Jr. earlier this year. The return package included outfielder James Outman and an unnamed top Dodgers prospect.
Nevertheless, the two teams put aside the trade discussions last month. At the time, Robert had not been playing well, hitting .178 with one home run, four runs batted in and a .536 OPS.
Now, the White Sox are starting to get some traction on a trade for the center fielder as he’s heated up as of late. The New York Mets reportedly inquired about Robert, and in return, Chicago is hoping to land Mets top prospect Blake Tidwell, per MLB insider Bob Nightengale.
While the Dodgers have the best record in baseball, the Mets are not far behind, sitting at 26-15. The two National League teams met in the Championship Series last October, and if both continue to succeed as the season progresses, they have a good chance of facing off in the playoffs once again.
The Dodgers have the best roster in baseball, but the need for outfield depth is even more clear with Teoscar Hernandez and Tommy Edman on the injured list.
However, the latest update on the Dodgers’ pursuits of an outfielder indicate the front office is eyeing Kyle Tucker in free agency this winter.

Geez, let the man go to the Mets. We don’t need another over-hyped ball player.
Robert, Jr. isn’t going anywhere…He is a Centerfielder and the Mets have a good Centerfielder in Brandon Nimmo. If Robert was anywhere close to his 2023 stats it might be different but he sucked in 2024 and he sucks now. If he gets traded it will be at the deadline or over the winter. Chicago will have to fire-sell him if he doesn’t improve as they can’t keep using old stats as a lever in getting a haul of prospects from any team. They should have took Outman and a lesser prospect when they had the chance. It would have helped both teams. Now they have painted themselves into a corner and will have to take less. If Friedman really wants him, he just needs to be patient and bode his time.
