Dodgers Rumors: Insider Proposes Deal to Finally Get Corbin Burnes in LA

Following the Dodgers’ disappointing early exit in the NLDS, all the focus is now on building a true contender in October for next season.

It’s no secret that LA plans to make an aggressive run at free agent two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, but they also will need pitching help for next season. And due to his torn UCL, Ohtani won’t take the mound until 2025.

So, LA will be looking elsewhere for help, even if they land Ohtani. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman even said on Tuesday that the team will be focused on adding starting pitching this offseason, whether through free agency or the trade market.

The trade market offers the Dodgers a chance to get a really quality player without shelling out a large amount of money, and there will be one player who could be available that has been linked to LA for quite some time now: Milwaukee Brewers starter Corbin Burnes.

After the Brewers were knocked out in the Wild Card round, they very well could look to move their ace. The team doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, and they likely won’t pay him big money when his contract ends next season. So moving him makes sense.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report put together some trade packages for Burnes, and one has LA landing the star pitcher.

“Trade Proposal: Los Angeles Dodgers get RHP Corbin Burnes; Milwaukee Brewers get C/1B Dalton Rushing and RHP Nick Frasso. …

“The Dodgers’ farm system ended 2023 in a worse spot than the one it started in, but Rushing (No. 54) and Frasso (No. 71) both check in among the top 100 prospects in baseball. The former has a mighty stick and the latter has a plus-plus fastball.”

Per Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report

Losing both Dalton Rushing and Nick Frasso in this deal would sting a bit, but Burnes is worth it. You have to trade talent to get talent, and Burnes would give this team a true ace to work with.

He finished the 2023 season with an ERA of 3.39 and a WHIP of 1.07. Burnes also struck out 200 over 193.2 innings of work. At times, he looked a little off this season, but that could have been due to a contractual dispute early in the season that distracted him.

He could be one of the missing pieces for this team and would really help stabilize the rotation next season. It would give them one of the better staffs in the league — I mean, imagine Burnes alongside Bobby Miller and Walker Buehler.

LA has the means to make a trade like this happen, and the Brewers have shown a willingness to move their star players. So maybe this is the offseason where they link up on a deal.

  1. Zachary Rymer has NO clue. You don’t trade Rushing. Muncy, Taylor, and one of the worst pitch callers, Will Smith, are trade pieces the Dodgers MUST consider trading…and tell the fan base WHY incompetent writers think Bobby Miller is ready to be a regular starter in LA’s rotation? Yes, he throws 100 mph heat like MANY MLB pitchers do today, but he has VERY LITTLE command of his other pitches. And, his mechanics suck! Notice he falls off towards 1st base after ever pitch. What was his ERA this year? It was almost 4, so PLEASE STOP this nonsense. He truly could use a full season in AAA to perfect and develop his mechanics and arm talent, and make him much more effective.
Along with toughness and grit, many insiders believe LA needs a complete makeover in their baseball operations, led by people who played and know the nuances of the game. Not only are the Dodgers NOT good enough, they’re NOT tough enough, led by an impassionate manager, Dave “Milque Toast” Roberts! Ask yourself, how many World Series championships has LA won in their franchise history? Answer: SEVEN, with the last (lucky) one coming In the shortened 2020 season, consisting of 60 regular season games! Fact is, they’ve won 1 title in the last 35 years! Is that good enough for their hard-working, loyal, Hispanic base, or are they simply a media-driven, 100% HYPE franchise who wins just enough to keep their fans hopeful that the ‘next year’ will be a World Series championship year?
