Dodgers Rumors: Jack Flaherty Traded to Orioles, LA Misses Out on Another Pitcher

The Dodgers pursuit of another starter to pair with the recently acquired Lance Lynn came up short on Tuesday afternoon, as the Baltimore Orioles made a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals to get starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

This is yet another pitching target the Dodgers have missed out on at the trade deadline.

You can check back here at Dodgers Nation for the latest trade deadline news concerning LA, but it doesn’t look like they’ll be able to make a consequential move up as the deadline comes to a close and the last deals trickle in.

As a reminder, there are trades that can come out in the minutes following the deadline, so the team could make a move to grab Mitch Keller as an example, but options are thin and time is running incredibly low for the Dodgers.

  1. St Louis got INF Cesar Prieto, LHP Drew Rom and RHP Zack Showalter, Prieto and Rom were both Top 20 prospects for the Cardinals.

Prieto is a 24-year-old infielder from Cuba (where he was a star) who is batting .305/.347/.434 with 17 home runs, 12 stolen bases and 43 walks in 200 minor-league games since 2022. With 27 games already at Triple A, he could be promoted to the majors this season. Rom, 23, has made 18 starts for Norfolk (AAA) this season, going 7-6 and striking out 100 batters in 86.0 innings pitched. The 6-2, 215-pound lefty, who was the Orioles 4th round draft selection in 2018 out of Highlands (KY) High School, will be assigned to Memphis (AAA). Showalter, 19, was the Orioles 11th round selection in 2022 out of Wesley Chapel (Fla.) High School. The 6-2, 195-pound righty has posted a 2.37 ERA this year in his 1st professional season in 9 games (8 starts), while producing a 32 pct. strikeout rate and 46 pct. groundball rate. He will be assigned to Pal.m Beach (A).

These guys are interesting but no better than what the Dodgers could have offered in say, Busch, Pepiot (or Grove or Stone) and minor leagues pitcher Nick Frasso. The press are right when they say the Dodgers got beat again!
