Dodgers Rumors: LA ‘Actively Pursuing Trade for Centerfielder’

The Dodgers’ outfield at the moment is very thin, like razor-sharp thin. Outside of superstar Mookie Betts, who covers a ton of ground in right field, it’s up in the air who will fill the recently vacant left field and center field.

Joey Gallo left for the Minnesota Twins recently, and former MVP Cody Bellinger signed with the Chicago Cubs after being non-tendered by the Dodgers a month ago.

So, it’s no secret that L.A. is looking for a replacement via trade or if they’ll have one of their current players fill the roles.

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal says the Dodgers are doing that and gave us a list of guys they can potentially trade for.

“The Dodgers are actively pursuing trades for a center fielder. Taylor, James Outman, Trayce Thompson are their current options to replace Cody Bellinger, the worst-hitting center fielder in the majors the past two seasons. The Pirates’ Bryan Reynolds, Diamondbacks’ Alek Thomas, Cardinals’ Dylan Carlson and Mariners’ Jarred Kelenic are among the trade possibilities, and all fit the Dodgers’ need for a left-handed or switch-hitter.”

A trade may be their best and only option if they want to find someone out of the organization. The best option from Rosenthal’s list might be Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds.

Reynolds, 27, is a one-time All-Star who had a good 2022 campaign. He slashed .262/.345/.461 with a .807 OPS while recording a career-high 27 home runs, 62 RBIs in 145 games, and 542 ABs.
The four-year major leaguer has a career .842 OPS and had a .993 fielding percentage while playing center field in 127 games last season for Pittsburgh.

L.A. needs to fill the center field spot, and no offense to anyone currently in the organization, but Reynolds is the best option they’d have if they happen to trade for him.

The Dodgers still have a ton of time to improve the squad; everyone wants the flashing signings to happen the minute the offseason begins.

Dodger fans know the real magic happens in the months of February and March with Andrew Friedman running the show.

  1. he would be a quality piece to add to our roster. He can hit and field above average.

  2. So who do you give up for him? The best prospects all have roles to fill on the big league team. They won’t want guys that are 2 years away from the big leagues.

  3. Hope we’re pleasantly surprised, but it may be a month or 2 b4 everything shakes out. Time to be patiently optimistic…

  4. They had a center fielder. His name is Cody Bellinger. They quit on him to quickly.

    1. That sucks if he has a great season and I think he will add him to the list of great players the Dodgers gave up on he was to me getting better I would have gave him another year to see if he can get back to his old self his defense was A+

  5. The dodgers GM doesn’t know talent. What GM trades potential hall of fame players like Onel Cruz and the Houston superstar for rentals. He let Pederson and Bellringer walk. Nobody to replace them.
