Dodgers Rumors: Max Scherzer Involved in Trade Talks, Will LA Get Involved?

MLB insider Jon Heyman reported that Washington Nationals star right-handed pitcher, Max Scherzer is being discussed in potential trades. We react to Heyman’s rumor and discuss what it would take for the Dodgers to get involved in trade talks for the three-time Cy Young Award winner before the July 30th MLB trade deadline.

Plus, we assess how enormous the asking price would be for “Mad Max” and if LA would be willing to part ways with top prospects for a potential Max Scherzer rental.

In 18 starts this season, Scherzer has a 7-4 record with a 2.83 ERA and 142 strikeouts. With the current state of the starting rotation, that would immediately be a top option to open games. Notably, Clayton Kershaw is making his way back from an elbow issue but isn’t expected back before August. David Price and Tony Gonsolin put up back to back quality starts, but the jury is out on how the club would view either of them in a postseason series.

Josiah Gray makes his first big league start for the Dodgers this afternoon at Dodger Stadium. He allowed 4 earned runs over 4 innings in his MLB debut on Tuesday. He struck out 7 batters and walked none. The boys in blue need to take this game.

  1. They would be crazy not to be involved, esp. with the Padres and Giants also lurking. But we have seen in the last couple of weeks that the rotation isn’t the real problem.

    1. The only issue or 2 is Scherzer would be a rental and is a Boras client. Giving up a ton for a rental? IDK, especially if he wants to remain with Nats. He also has 10-5 rights to veto any trade.

  2. I would give up Keibert and Lux in a minute for Scherzer. They don’t need Kiebert because they have Will Smith and also Diego Cartaya who might turn out to be better than all of them. When Seager comes back Taylor will move to second and they won’t need Lux and I don’t really see Lux in the dodgers future. But it will take more than that for Scherzer. They will have to include a pitcher. I wouldn’t give up Pepiot or Gray or Bobby Miller. So how about Ruiz,Lux, and Clayton Beeter a single A pitcher for Scherzer. I have a feeling they won’t want Lux. So Give him Michael Busch or Kody Hoese. Just Get Scherzer

  3. I don’t know who but someone suggested today on MLB Network that a trade of Scherzer for Ruiz, DJ Peters, and minor league pitcher Jackson. The MLB guest of Dan O’Dowd (reputed former GM), and Dan Pleisac ( former MLB pitcher) both totally agreed w/ that suggestion……considered it could be done and benefit both sides. In fact Pleisac also added that he thinks Scherzer wouldn’t mind going to LA and maybe work to extend the contract. That’s some powerful comments by reputed people in the industry. WSS.
P.S. I would like to know who sent that suggestion…..hope the respected parties out there are @ least listening

  4. Trade Bellinger for Scherzer straight up— change of scenery for Belli & not giving up prospects.
