Dodgers: Ryan Pepiot to Start Game 1 of the Doubleheader

The Dodgers and Diamondbacks will play two games today as part of a scheduled doubleheader. It will be the second time in just over a week that Los Angeles has to play a pair of games on the same day. They had that with the Cubs after rain caused a postponement.

The team already announced that Tyler Anderson would be the starter for game 2. But up until this morning, the Dodgers had not revealed who would be pitching in game 1. That was announced about an hour ago and it will be Ryan Pepiot

Pep will be serving as the Dodgers’ 27th man for today and will get the ball for game 1. He is coming off of his big league debut in Pittsburgh last week. In that game, Pepiot tossed 3 shutout innings while working around a bunch of traffic. He walked 5 batters and punched out 3 while allowing just 1 hit.

The Dodgers have been forced into using some of their prospects much earlier in the season than anticipated. With the long stretch of games and injuries to guys like Clayton Kershaw and Andrew Heaney, they have had to turn to Pepiot and Michael Grove to make their debuts.
