Rollins made a nice barehanded played on a slow roller for the first out, but Denorfia got the first hit of the inning with a single over Turner at first. Rizzo then hit a ball deep to center, which sent Hernandez crashing into the ivy, causing him to drop the ball and putting runners on second and third with one out, but Frias struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

Kendrick continued the streak of nine consecutive batters retired by flying out to right field. Guerrero and Ellis reached base to bring up Frias’ spot in the lineup with two outs. Adrian Gonzalez pinch-hit for the starter and grounded out to end the threat.

Joel Peralta took over on the mound for the Dodgers and pitched a perfect inning to keep the shutout heading to the seventh.

In the top half of the seventh, Turner came to bat with two outs and hit a ball into the air that appeared to be a home run, but it hit the top of the fencing on the wall and came back into play. It was originally ruled a home run, but after review, it was called in play and Turner remained on third. Van Slyke flew out to end the inning.

Moving to the bottom half, J.P. Howell was the new pitcher for the Dodgers. He tossed a scoreless inning to keep the shutout intact.

The Dodger offense failed to add to their total in the eighth and Yimi Garcia tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half to send his team and their 4-0 lead to the ninth.

Once again, the offense went down quietly, with Joc Pederson being doubled up on a deep fly ball to end the innning.

Kenley Jansen took the mound for the bottom of the ninth. He was able to sit the Cubs down in order to preserve the win and earn a series split.
