Dodgers’ Tanner Scott Not Making Excuses for Blown Save vs Mets
The Los Angeles Dodgers narrowly escaped a 13-inning thriller in the Big Apple on Friday night (and into Saturday morning on the East Coast), beating the New York Mets, 7-5, but the game should have never made it past the ninth inning.
L.A. was leading 5-2 heading into the bottom of the last frame until Tanner Scott allowed three runs, three hits, and a walk as he recorded just one out.

Pitching injuries and no clear-cut closer for the Dodgers were the main reasons Los Angeles went after reinforcements to the pitching roster this offseason. Scott inked a four-year, $72 million deal after posting a 1.75 ERA across 72 innings in 2024 that helped him earn his first All-Star selection.
Friday marked his fourth blown save of the season and second in three outings. Although Scott has seen an increased workload as of late, it is far from an excuse for the closer.
“I didn’t even think about it like that,” Scott said of his third appearance in four days. “I just wish I would have located better and got guys out.”
Through the 14 pitchers on the injured list and the recent underwhelming performances, it can seem like the sky is falling, but blown save aside, the bullpen stepped up when they needed to. Again, it shouldn’t have been a situation to use another four pitchers for over four innings, but there are still bright spots amid the blown save.
Alex Vesia, Lou Trivino, Anthony Banda, and Luis Garcia combined for just one hit when they entered the game after Scott.
Additionally, this was a game that was delayed for 98 minutes due to rain. There are not many guarantees in baseball, but the circumstances that came of Friday’s victory will be difficult to replicate.
Scott taking accountability for his performance is the first step in ensuring these moments don’t plague him later in the season. The next step will be to get back to the 2024 version of himself and continue to close out games for the Dodgers.
