Dodgers’ Teoscar Hernandez Drawing Interest From 2 AL Contenders: Report

Free agency has officially started. Los Angeles outfielder Teoscar Hernández is one of the most popular Dodgers free agents on the market. The reigning All-Star and Home Run Derby champion is attracting attention from several teams.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles are among the interested teams. He added that both teams are looking to add a powerful right-handed bats to the roster in the offseason.

The Red Sox did not qualify for the postseason for the third consecutive year. Meanwhile, the Orioles were swept by the Kansas City Royals in the AL Wild Card round. Although neither team shined in the postseason, they finished second and third in the AL East behind the World Series runner-ups, the New York Yankees. Baltimore finished just three games behind New York while Boston finished 13 games back.

Hernández would add depth to either lineup and is reliable in big moments. His bat was an essential part of the Dodgers 2024 World Series victory. He slashed .250/.352/.417 while hitting three home runs and recording 12 RBIs in the postseason. The two-time AL Silver Slugger hit the sixth postseason grand slam in franchise history in Game 3 of the National League Division Series.

In addition to his batting, Hernández came through for the Dodgers defensively. Most notably, he threw out Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton at home in Game 3 of the World Series.

The Dodgers and their fans are also interested in keeping Hernández on their roster. Hernández has expressed his desire to remain in Los Angeles. The franchise extended the Dominican outfielder a qualifying offer. He has until 1 p.m. PT on Nov. 19 to decide whether he will accept or reject the offer. In the meantime, Hernández is free to explore options with other teams.

  1. He’s going to want more than the qualifying offer. Much more. In the business of baseball, as opposed to the sport of baseball, he took a relatively low offer last year from the Dodgers. Hoping I’m sure, and no slight to him, hoping to have a great year and then sign a big contract for what he feels/hopes he’s worth. And he had a great year, a major contributor to the Dodgers and their world series title.

Now, this is not a criticism, but he’s going to want money. Including a longer term contract. I suppose failing to offer one would be even more of an insult, but for the numbers he put up the qualifying offer is almost an insult.

After all that, I wouldn’t mind seeing him sign with the Dodgers, just not holding my breath on a qualifying offer.

  2. The Dodgers would be very foolish not to sign Teoscar. He’s a very good reliable player who has the right attitude and personality, and he wants to remain on the team. Nothing but pluses there. He deserves a decent contract and I hope the Dodgers give him one.

  3. I don’t think it was meant as an insult because kersh Buehler and many others in the past have had qualifying offers then signed decent contracts with our boys in blue once he turns it down he should be offered a 5 to 10 year deal I don’t think the dodgers will go over 135 million but what do I know, I hope he stays with the dodgers

  4. He definitely wants more but also deserves it he won the home run derby the slugger award and helped them out a lot in the world series i think dodger need to give him a better contract and need to recognize that it not only Otani, Freeman and Betts their other players that were a big help to get them where they needed to be.
