Dodgers’ Tommy Edman Calls Trade to LA a ‘True Blessing’

The three-team trade for Los Angeles Dodgers star Tommy Edman has been called the steal of the century, and understandably so.

The Dodgers gave up infielder Miguel Vargas, shortstop Alexander Albertus, and shortstop Jeral Perez to the Chicago White Sox. In return, L.A. acquired Edman from the St. Louis Cardinals and Michael Kopech from the White Sox.

In 2024, Edman hit .237 with six home runs, 20 RBIs, and a .711 OPS. He most notably slashed .328/.354/.508 in 16 postseason games to help push the Dodgers to a World Series title. He took home NLCS MVP honors.

This season, Edman is the gift that keeps on giving as he continues to find success at the plate and offers the Dodgers flexibility since he can play anywhere on the diamond.

Edman, a California native, appears to be just as grateful for the trade.

“Just a really special experience for our family. It’s been nice to be back home,” Edman said to MLB.com’s Sonja Chen. “We get to have (my mom) around to help out my wife and I with our son, Eli. So it’s just a huge blessing to be that close to home.”

The loss of Edman in the lineup is certainly a major setback while he recovers from an ankle injury. Nevertheless, he’s played a pivotal role for the Dodgers in 2025 as he has bounced between second base and centerfield this year.
