Dodgers’ Tommy Edman Discusses Big Series Against Padres, Giants This Week

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a tough stretch their next 10 games, all against division rivals in the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.

The Padres and Giants are only one game behind the Dodgers in the National League West standings entering Monday night’s series opener against the Friars. The NL West is arguably baseball’s best division and these next stretch of games could have huge implications for the standings.

President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman made it abundantly clear the Dodgers’ priority remains winning the division, which L.A. has done nine times in the last decade. After the Dodgers cut two of their longest-tenured players, Friedman made note of the tight division race as a reason for parting ways with Austin Barnes and Chris Taylor.

“I think with the improvements we’ve seen year over year, coupled with being in a tight division race … I think it falls in line with our consistent message of doing anything and everything we can to win,” Friedman said last month.

Therefore, the Dodgers are perhaps tasked with their toughest challenge of the year in these next three series. Utility man Tommy Edman revealed the defending champions are embracing the challenge, and look forward to competing against both rivals, who they have not faced since 2024.

“We’re excited to play them,” Edman said. “It’s kind of weird that we’ve gotten to this point without playing them or the Giants. We’ve got a lot of lot of games against those guys coming up. So we’re excited to get at it.”

First pitch for Monday night’s series opener is 6:40 p.m. PT. Petco Park should be rocking in what will likely be a playoff atmosphere in a rematch of the 2024 NLDS.

  1. I think the only way it breaks the Dodgers season is if they lose 9 or 10 of the games. The Giants and Padres can of course feast on another opponent while the Dodgers play the other team, but head to head, as long as they don’t get swept, they’re in good shape. In a 3 game series, if they lost 2 of 3, they only lose one game in the standings. If they even lost 5 of 7 to the Padres, they’d only lose 3 games in the standings (and likely the season series, depending on how future games go). Once they are done with this brutal stretch of games against all these winning teams, they have a very good schedule ahead, easier than the Giants and Padres will have and can make up those games. But hey, the headline sounds good. I clicked on it.
